Apologetics (learn about why Catholics believe what we believe):

Why we’re Catholic (Van Horn)

Answering Common Objections

Friends in High Places (Tim Staples)   Communion of the Saints

Mary Vol. 1 & 2 (Tim Staples)

Rome Sweet Home (not apologetics, strictly speaking, but useful as you study)

Catechetical  (Learn the Faith)

Baltimore Catechism #1, #2, & #3  (meant for the simple teaching of the faith to young children. Very useful for learning the most simplified form of Divine Truth. Each volume (1-4) answers the same questions, but with increasing depth)

Baltimore Catechism #4

Marian devotions:

The Rosary

The Angelus

The Three Aves

The Psalter of Mary (powerfully Marian in character. Be sure to know the doctrine of the Church, or you will mistakenly believe that She is being given too much honor by St. Bonaventure in this Psalter)

EWTN (be cautious of modernist tendencies in some of the shows. i.e. the tendency to say that Catholics, muslims, and jews all worship the same God. Being that Jews and Muslim specifically reject the Second Person of the Most Holy Trinity, they reject the entirety of God. To reject a part of divinely revealed truth is to reject all truth; therefore, we do not worship the same God. Not even a little bit. This has always been, and will always be,condemned by the Church even if members within the Church specifically support this error. We are specifically prohibited by the Church from hoping for the salvation of heretics, apostates, protestants, jews, muslims, athiests, and/or agnostics.

Persons that can be helpful during conversion:

Dr. Scott Hahn (Protestant convert. He was exceedingly helpful in the initial stages of my conversion; however, you should take care to learn the faith for yourself as thoroughly as possible)

Mother Angelica (Life-long Roman Catholic Nun. She initially began following the reforms after the Second Vatican Council, but as she grew older it became evident that she had a strong desire for tradition. She was the primary person God used to introduce me to Catholicism)

Tim Staples (Protestant convert: Mr. Staples is perhaps the best biblically based apologist of which I know)

Helpful persons after conversion when seeking more depth of Faith:

St. Alphonsus

St. John Eudes

A few Marian Saints:

St. Alphonsus

St. Louis de Montforte

St. John Eudes

St. Bonaventure

Books helpful for developing your spiritual life:

The Imitation of Christ

The Imitation of Mary

Divine Intimacy (if you are confused as to the Church’s calendar, don’t worry about it. Just start at page one. Seriously, just begin. Syncing up with the calendar can come at a later time as you progress)

The Admirable Heart of Mary

The Sacred Heart of Jesus

True Devotion to Mary

The Glories of Mary

The Sermons of Saint Alphonsus

The Mystical City of God

It is very easy to spend copious amounts of money on Catholic books and devotional items. It’s not necessary to do so. The Faith is within easy reach of most people in the modern world. If you have the internet, becoming Catholic won’t cost a single dime if you don’t have a single dime to spend. The Baltimore Catechism #4 and the written works of the Saints are in the public domain. They can be found for free at http://www.archive.org.

Pray for help. You will need it. You are surrounded by spiritual deception, laxity, and immorality (all of which offends The Lord). Pray to your Guardian Angel for help. Pray to Our Lady to have pity on your soul and for Her to lead you to Her Son. She will. Have confidence in Her. God made Her worthy of all trust. Pray that God won’t allow you to be satisfied with believing a lie or practicing any error. Be willing to go wherever Divine Truth is, and He will help you.

Don’t be surprised if He helps you through His creatures. One of the things we know with certainty is that God loves to work through His creatures. It gives them the opportunity to submit their wills to His Divine Will. Of all the creatures God loves to work through, He loves to work through Our Lady the most. Seek Her help. Seek Her pity. Honor Her in your life. Love those that God loves. Honor those upon which God has bestowed honor.

Another thing we know with certainty about God is that He loves establishing intercessors. There is one intercessor between God and man, and that intercessor is the Lord Jesus Christ; however, between the Lord and us, there are as many intercessors as are willing to pray for us. Chiefly among them is His Mother. Next are Saints and Angels and Poor Souls in purgatory. Lastly, there are the embattled souls upon earth. He loves the intercessors which He establishes. He loves being constrained to have mercy when righteous judgement is rightly deserved. Let’s not try His patience any longer. Let us cooperate with the Grace given to us and be converted in heart and life. In this way, having overcome the world, our flesh, and the devil, our intercessory prayers for those around us, for the Church, and for the Poor Souls, won’t be hindered by our sinfulness any longer.
